The first month at the Mount for 2022/2023 is over. We have welcomed our new Upper Elements students and have seen them settle into life at the College.
Starting at a new school can be daunting – new building, new teachers and new peers. There’s a lot to take in and we know it can bring a lot of nerves. We spoke to our new Year 7 students to find out what worried them about starting at a new school, and what they were excited about. Here’s what some of them said:
“Being in a school with so many older students made me feel worried. Everyone is so big! They are all really friendly here though so I feel better now.”
“I’m not from Barlborough Hall School, so I was worried about making new friends, as the other pupils in my class seemed to know each other. I really enjoyed the taster days, because I got to meet everyone before we started, so I felt like I knew a few more people.”
Their first few weeks here consisted of settling in sessions, inductions and getting to know their classmates. At the end of this initial period, our Year 7 students only have good things to say about life as a Mountaineer:
"I have had an amazing introduction to my new story and have had a great time. Thank you for the great hospitality and care."
“I've loved school and I feel included (even with tics) and I have been invited to learning support to help me further.”
“It has been very good. I feel well supported at school and I feel good in myself.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time at Mount St Mary’s College and feel really happy and comfortable about the fact that this is my school.”
“There have been a lot of new, but wonderful experiences and I would like to carry on here. I feel like Mount Saint Mary's is a wonderful place to be and I look forward for the years to come.”
“I feel like I have settled in really well and I really enjoy the school. I have made lots of new friends and I am really happy where I am.”
“I have had a really good time and I am happy I moved here.”
“It's been amazing and I feel I belong and they help me with absolutely anything I need. It's a great school.”
“School is GREAT!”
We are so glad to see Upper Elements fully embracing life at the Mount. This is the start of a wonderful journey, with some exciting surprises coming up over the next 12 months. We think it’s going to be a fantastic year.
